What is Pancreatic Cancer?
Pancreatic cancer is one of the most serious forms of cancer. It develops when cancer cells form in the tissues of your pancreas –a large organ that lies horizontally behind the lower part of your stomach. Your pancreas secretes enzymes that aid digestion and hormones that regulate the metabolism of carbohydrates.
Pancreatic cancer spreads rapidly and is seldom found in an early stage,which is an important reason why a major cause of cancer death. Signs and symptoms may not appear until the disease is fairly advanced. By then,the cancer is likely to have spread to other parts of the body and surgical removal is not possible.
What Causes Pancreatic Cancer?
We still do not know exactly what causes most cases of pancreatic cancer cancer. Several risk factors associated with the disease. A risk factor is something a person's chance of getting a disease like cancer influences. Some risk factors such as smoking,can be controlled. Others,such as age or race of a person may not be changed. But keep in mind that having one or more risk factors does not mean that a person getting the disease.
Signs and symptoms of pancreatic cancer
Pancreatic cancer is often a silent disease because it usually causes no symptoms early on. The cancer can grow and extend some time before symptoms develop,which may be so vague that they initially ignored. For these reasons,pancreatic cancer is difficult to detect early. In many cases the cancer has spread outside the pancreas by the time it was found. When symptoms appear,the type and severity depend on the location and size of the tumor.

Whipple procedure
The Whipple procedure (pancreatoduodenectomy) is the most common operation performed for pancreatic cancer and can be used for other to treat cancers such as small intestine cancer. Surgeons remove the head of the pancreas,most of the duodenum (a part of the small intestine),a Part of the bile ducts and sometimes a portion of the stomach. After pancreatoduodenectomy,the surgeon reconstructs the digestive tract. Patients leave the hospital in an average of 14 days.
Distal Pancreatectomy

After mobilization of the spleen and body and tail of the pancreas,the pancreas is divided and the body,tail,tumor and spleen removed.
This operation is performed for tumors of the body and tail of the pancreas removed. The tail of the pancreas can be removed with the main part of the organ intact. This procedure eliminates the need for surgical reconstruction.
Total Pancreatectomy
This procedure is rarely performed today because a lifetime can cause adverse effects. During this operation,surgeons remove the entire pancreas,bile ducts,gallbladder and spleen,and possibly parts of the small intestine,stomach and nearby lymph nodes
Port Vein Removal
