Ever since soccer became a popular sport,there have been some down sides to all of the popularity. For over a hundred years there has been something called soccer or football,if you are not in the United States,hooliganism. Hooliganism goes back to when each team had its’own unique group of supporters. For example,in Scotland there are two rival teams called Celtics and Rangers. These two teams usually vie for the first and second place spots in their league. Hundreds of years ago Celtics were known to have Catholic supporters and Rangers were known to have Protestant supporters and whenever the two played one another groups of fans would sometimes start fights with the other. The hooligans usually try to keep a low profile during the match,because they do not want to get thrown out of the stadium and risk losing their ability to watch their team in the stadium. The match is almost always the time when hooligans scout out the opposition to see who they will be battling after the game. Hooligans usually meet a few times a week at the local pub to go over how they will fight and which people they will be fighting. The organizations are actually called firms and firms battle one another almost always after the matches,but it can happen before the teams play. It is usually an organized event where people from each firm know where and when they will be fighting the opposing firm. There is almost always one person who is the leader and then there is someone who is the second in command in case something happens to the leader. The leader,of course,is responsible for organizing the fight and for making sure his members is ready for match day.
Most of the time people in these firms do not die,although it has been known to happen. When fighting,most firm members just use their bodies,but again,this is not always the case. Some hooligans use weapons,like glass bottles and metal pipes to really do some damage to their rivals.
A lot of media attention has been given to hooligans all over the globe in the past few years because of the increase in deaths that occur. It is important to keep an eye on this situation because it is becoming much more violent and the amount of hooligans is increasing at a pretty quick rate. Everyone across the globe should be aware of what it is and how to try to prevent family members and friends from getting involved in the violence that can very easily come with hooliganism.
